Radio Show: Fandom – Star Trek

The Original Series vs. Abbrams Universe — the impact the new movies have had on fan fiction, the Star Trek fandom, and the pairing of Kirk/Spock. Why I write in AOS but never had any desire to write in TOS as a fan fiction writer.

Do you have questions about Tangled Destinies? Ask them now (on this post) and I may have time to answer them on the radio show tonight.

In my spare time I write fan fiction and lead a cult of cock worshippers on Facebook. It's not the usual kind of hobby for a "domestic engineer" in her 30's but we live in a modern world and I like fucking with people's expectations.

  1. Ohhhh, excellent. I may end up calling in for this one, because I have THINGS TO SAY about the second AOS movie. I HATE that thing. It’s an abomination.

That said … questions for Tangled Destines … I guess the biggest one is what made you decide to have Jim be part Betazoid? And right after that … why from Deanna Troi’s line? Provided the answer won’t spoil anything: Will that blood relationship (however distant it is) end up being important somehow?

  2. Yay, I love Tangled Destinies!! And I’m really interested in hearing about your thoughts on both the different series.

On the question front I’ve been wondering what kind of role Uhura and Gaila are going to have, or even if they will have any kind of significant role in the case of Gaila.

  3. I have always wondered how old are they going to be before they enter starfleet, with Spock’s momma’s boy type attachment, and Jim’s possible ship design plans circulate through high command. Will any of their academic achievements play a large role?

… maybe I shouldn’t ask too many questions. It seems like ever question I want to ask is basically a spoiler. I am really looking forward to your next installment(whenever) but I am also looking forward to hearing your opinion of the two series contrasted. I personally see AOS as a brilliant revision of the original with the necessary similarities to complement the original rather than ignore it or degrade it importance.

  4. Its not really a tangled destiny question but I guess in a way it could be. Do you have any characters in that fandom that you hate? Like in HP you hate Ron and Ginny. Or characters you think can be either bad or good and maybe a little hint on how you might play with them.

  5. In canon, Spock strikes me as a Vulcan who is less struggling with containing his emotions, so much as he acknowledges them and utilizes the emotion driven impulses in logical ways. He doesn’t demonstrate them, of course, but he uses them. So, assuming you agree.. how much do you see yourself “humanizing” Spock in TD in his character evolution?

Now I’m hoping that made sense.

  6. Keira,

Thanks for recording this radio show. It was really interesting to hear your views on the two different Star Treks. Missed this in person due to the time difference, but must look to see if I can catch your next one in March.

I would like to thank you for all the enjoyment I have got in reading your writing over the last few years.

    Regards.

  7. Missed this live and finally got a chance to give it a listen. One thing that I thought of while listening that I was shocked you didn’t cover: what were your feelings about Chris Pike’s death in Into Darkness? I’m still waiting for you to fix that for me! (Joking, I swear.) Would you ever kill Pike off in Tangled Destinies in this manner? I feel like that would be completely crippling for your Kirk, even with Spock there to support him.

  8. I missed your radio show when it first aired, but I’m listening to now. I agree Chris Pine is beautiful and oh, Zachary Quinto is beautiful as well and the perfect Spock.
