Declan shouldered his duffel and ignored most of the questioning looks he got from the submissives on the ship as made his way to the dock. Any other time, he would have already picked one out to keep him company on leave and they knew it. The change in his normal routine had most of the ship speculating but he just wasn’t in the mood for another meaningless encounter—and that’s what every sex act had become in the wake of the months he’d spent with Sean Taylor. Eight months together and then six long, horrible months apart had convinced Declan of a of couple things.
One, he was entirely capable of having an exclusive relationship with Sean—something the Consort had hinted he would require of the Dom that collared him. Two, he was ready to leave the Navy and be exactly everything Sean needed if the younger man was even still available to him.
He stopped to sign off on the delivery of his trunk to the apartment he’d arranged for in advance and took a deep breath. He had a month of leave and in that time he had to decide if he was going to re-enlist. Declan wasn’t the kind of man who let himself get wrapped up in a sub and he felt a fool for it. A small amount of resentment burned along his veins as he his feet hit solid ground for the first time in over a month. Sean Taylor had preoccupied his mind for months but he didn’t anticipate the same was true for the submissive. A Consort’s bed was never empty unless it was by their choice and he doubted that Sean had been lonely long.
He moved through the crowd easily and moved down the gates where a group of civilians were waiting. Declan had never not seen a crowd of people waiting when a ship docked—it was the kind of homecoming that everyone on the ship looked forward to. Even, if they didn’t have anyone personally waiting on them. A little boy slid under the barricade and darted out towards him. Declan caught him easily and with a little laugh took him back to his haggard mother.
“Looks like someone’s impatient.”
The woman flushed beautifully as she accepted her child. “Yes, sir. Thank you.”
“Not a problem,” Declan said as he tousled the kid’s hair and then walked toward to the only opening in the barricade system so he could get the hell off the dock.
Declan glanced to his left and saluted. “Lt. Cole.”
Returning the salute, the officer quietly offered, “I understand you haven’t made arrangements for companionship during your leave.”
Declan took a deep breath but before he could respond a soft, familiar touch glanced over his wrist. Sean was there, on the other side of the barricade looking so beautiful and perfect that Declan could barely breathe.
“Sir.” Sean’s fingers trembled briefly as he pulled his hand away.
Cole laughed softly. “I see that I was mistaken.”
“Yeah.” Declan took a deep breath. He caught Sean’s hand and they walked the length of the barricade together until he could push through the gate.
Sean’s breath caught as Declan pulled him into a tight embrace. “Declan.”
Frost pushed his fingers through his hair as he tilted his head back and claimed his mouth. He shifted them out of the path of everyone leaving the docking area and lifted his head with an exhale. “How did you get here?”
“Airplanes are awesome,” Sean declared with a little smile hovering on his generous mouth. “This uniform thing is really hot.”
Declan snorted softly, more amused than he should be over the less than respectful comment regarding his Dress Whites. He rubbed his thumb over Sean’s bottom lip. “I should have called you.”
“Yeah.” Sean’s eyes drifted shut briefly. “You should have.”
“Or emailed or something.”
He grinned then and inclined his head. “All part of the charm I think—love ‘em and leave ‘em.” He smoothed his fingers over the ribbons on Declan’s uniform and took a deep breath. “I’ve missed you so much, sir.”
“I figured I’d have to hunt you down.”
“It would be my preference,” Sean began at a near whisper, “if we were never so far part again that you need to hunt me down.”
“Sean.” Declan ran his fingers down the side of his neck, grazing over his Consort mark, and he took a deep breath.
Before he could say anything else, Sean slid gracefully to his knees and bowed his head. “I’ll be everything you ever need. Please don’t leave me behind again.”
People around them stopped talking and Declan ran his fingers through Sean’s hair again. “You are and I won’t.” He held out his hand and took a deep breath as Sean’s soft hand slid into his. “Not ever again.”
