* * * *
She really thought that her hate-on for SHIELD couldn’t get any bigger. Boy, was she wrong. Darcy glared at the scientists on the opposite side of the freaking Hulk cage she’d woken up in, and they all backed away from her. They were just really freaking lucky that anger didn’t appear to be her trigger.
Jane came marching in at that moment, and Darcy stood up. “Darcy…” Her voice broke. She put her hands on the cage. “They said…”
“Do not cry,” Darcy ordered sternly. “If you cry then I’ll cry and what if being sad is my Hulk-Trigger?”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Jane snapped and turned on the scientists. “You fix this! You fix this right now!”
The whole Avenger squad came strolling in at that point, and Jane turned to Thor. “They broke my Darcy, Thor! Make them fix her!”
Thor opened his mouth then shut it. Darcy figured the big guy didn’t want to be the one to tell her that there was no fixing this situation. She blew out a frustrated breath when no one spoke. “Jane, look at me.”
Jane turned back around, bottom lip quivering.
“They can’t fix this, okay? If they could fix this, then Dr. Banner wouldn’t turn into a big green rage monster, okay? It was an accident, and we’re just really lucky I was alone in your lab when their experiment blasted through the wall.” Darcy rubbed her arms and took a deep breath.
Jane huffed. “No, those assholes are the lucky ones! If I could, I would Hulk out and rip them to pieces.” She glared at the group of SHIELD scientists. “Thor give me your hammer!”
Thor came to her then and pulled her back gently against his chest. “I could find no one more worthy than you to wield my hammer in my place.” He pressed a kiss against her hair then he focused on Darcy. “What can we do for you?”
Darcy shrugged. “I don’t even know.” She ran her fingers through her hair and kicked the wall of her cell. “Dr. Banner?”
Bruce moved through the small crowd and took Jane’s place. “Hey.”
“Did I receive enough exposure to…” She waved a hand. “Turn into a big green rage monster?”
“I viewed what video footage we have and the data from their gamma radiation experiment.” Bruce looked down at the floor briefly. “If I’d known they were doing that kind of experiment in this place—I would’ve put a stop to it. You received roughly twice the amount of gamma radiation exposure I did during my accident.”
“Son of a bitch,” Darcy muttered. She turned and walked away from them. “Stark?”
“I’m here, Sparky.”
She looked back and found Tony Stark standing next to Banner. He’d been calling her Sparky since he’d found out that she’d tasered Thor. It was more amusing than it should be. “You made Dr. Banner stretch pants, right? Based on Mr. Fantastic’s suit?”
“Sure did.” Tony shoved his hands into his pockets. “Already got Jarvis manufacturing you a variety of clothing options. I had to take a tour through your clothes at the tower.” He paused. “Including your underwear drawer. Not particularly sorry.”
Darcy laughed, and her shoulders relaxed a little. “Thanks for being you.”
He grinned at her. “So, thoughts on your trigger?”
She shrugged. “It sure the fuck isn’t anger.” She offered the scientists another glare. “Or frustration.”
“Or amusement,” Tony supplied. “Which would’ve been hilarious, to be honest.”
“Well, there’s a way to find out.” Bruce walked around the cage, put in a code and one of the panels opened.
He put his glasses down on the railing near him and shed his jacket. Then he stepped into the cage. The panel shut behind him in a snick and Darcy took a deep breath. Banner toed off his shoes, then took off his socks, and slacks. The T-shirt went last leaving him clad in a black skin tight body suit.
“Oh, hey, Stark, it’s not sexual arousal either.”
Tony snorted. “Lucky girl there, Sparky, because that would suck.”
Darcy took a step toward Banner, and he raised a hand.
“I think your trigger is fear,” Bruce said plainly. “And you’re bafflingly brave, to be honest. Anyone else in your position would be genuinely horrified at this point since it’s obvious about to let the Big Guy out.”
“The Big Guy adores me,” Darcy retorted. “He brings me flowers and shit whenever you Hulk out in my vicinity.”
“Then he’s really going to regret doing this,” Bruce said gently.
The change happened rapidly, and Darcy hitched a breath as the Hulk filled a large part of the cage. She took a step back when he growled. The Big Guy had never growled at her. Before she could take another step, the Hulk grabbed her and shoved her up against the glass. Her scream was only slightly louder than Jane’s. She struggled against the weight of his hand, horrified how easily he held in her place then she felt it—the rush of it. Her body twisted in the Hulk’s grip and then she shoved him back.
The Hulk hit the back of the cage as Darcy’s clothes tore in the wake of her expansion. She’d expected her mind to go to sleep, to step back from whatever her Hulk wanted to do but that wasn’t what happened.
The Hulk blinked in surprise and just like that Banner reappeared. Darcy huffed at him and pushed at Bruce with one finger. Banner dropped down on his ass and continued to stare at her.
“What?” Darcy demanded.
“Tony, do you see this?”
“Yeah, it’s pretty hard to miss those big gorgeous breasts. I’m disappointed that the T-shirt held on,” Stark admitted.
Darcy tugged at her T-shirt. It wasn’t holding up that well actually, but she was going to say that. Her sweat pants were torn all the way to the waist, so she was essentially wearing a skirt that was slit to the hip on both sides. “Stop perving on me, Stark. You could be my father.”
Tony grinned and rocked back on his feet. “Oh, I can be your Daddy if that’s the kind of thing you like.”
“He’s been a complete whore since Pepper dumped him,” Clint offered from his perch on a railing.
“I’m just trying to heal my wounded heart,” Tony protested.
“With pussy?” Natasha questioned.
“For the love of…” Steve trailed off. “Darcy, how do you feel?”
“Big, slightly underdressed.” She shrugged which made her tits bounce since her bra hadn’t survived the transition. “Normal.” She turned to Banner. “And it wasn’t fear.”
Bruce picked himself off the floor. “Then what?”
“You made me feel helpless,” Darcy said gruffly and turned her head so she wouldn’t have to look at them. “Jane, go get me some clothes?”
Darcy cleared her throat as Jane left the room. “How do I change back, Dr. Banner?”
Bruce walked over to her and offered her his hand. “Just take a few calming breaths. How do you know it wasn’t fear?”
“Because I’ve been scared out of my mind since this shit happened,” Darcy snapped. She took his hand carefully.
“You can’t hurt me,” Bruce told her. “And call me Bruce. I have a feeling that you and I are going to be spending a lot of time together. I’m sorry about before—I’d have never held you down like that if I’d known…how old were you?”
“Eighteen.” She bit down on her lip. “College freshman. He denied it, and campus police believed him.”
“If you’d like we could find him, and you could Hulk out on him,” Tony said quietly.
Darcy laughed and allowed herself to relax. The shift back was just as quick as the Hulk out had been and she swayed on her feet. Bruce caught her but held her so carefully—like she’d break even though she was just as unbreakable as he was.
“What about you?” Darcy asked with a small grin. “Wanna play my Daddy?”
Bruce blushed furiously. “You do need your ass spanked that’s for certain.” He turned to Tony. “I think we can let her out of this. Even if she does Hulk out on someone, she doesn’t have the mental disconnect that I had before Reid’s serum.”
“Wait…” Darcy began as Bruce wrapped an arm around her waist and the panel opened. “You and the Big Guy made up and stuff?”
“Yeah, about six months ago,” Tony supplied helpfully.
“Huh,” Darcy said. “So those flowers?”
“Shut up, Tony,” Bruce said sternly. “Or I’ll punt your ass halfway across the state.”
“Why am I so tired?” Darcy asked as she blinked rapidly.
“You’ll get used to it,” Bruce said.
“I’ve had a shitty day, Bruce,” Darcy declared. “So you should carry me to my room and sex me up.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Banner asked with a blush.
“Yeah, but I should be on top, though.” She looped an arm around his neck as he picked her up. “At least the first three or four times.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Bruce agreed.
She offered the rest of the Avengers a wave as he carried her out of the room. “My new underwear better be gorgeous, Stark!”
The Big Short is a short-form writing challenge hosted on Rough Trade’s forum, The Workshop. The prompts come in two forms — a word challenge (the theme) and a single character challenge. I post my responses to the prompts on the forum first and eventually they’ll make it to my website. Each is a stand alone piece with no potential for expansion.
These short works are NOT prompts! These are my responses to the forum prompts. No, you cannot use them as prompts. No you cannot continue my short work with a longer work or write a sequel. For fuck’s sake.
