The world is stressful now and I know many of you are retreating into fandom to help manage your circumstances. Several thousand of you have been on my site daily since February. I’m writing this as I don’t want to be a source of anxiety if you try to visit a website I manage and can’t get access.
You might have noticed that there have been some loading issues with my site (and the Quantum Bang) this is due to the limits on the server/hosting service we’re currently using. Simply put, the hosted WordPress we’re using can’t handle the size of the two sites or the traffic. I expect it will also be a problem (traffic-wise) for Rough Trade in July.
Over the next two months, I will be migrating all the sites that I manage to a new host which is a lot of work and will also result in dead links on a temporary basis as domains resolve. I’ll probably start with the Wild Hare Project since it’s the smallest of the sites. My own site will follow. I’d like to move Rough Trade before the challenge starts but we’ll see how the other two moves go.
The Quantum Bang (which is experiencing more downtime than everything else combined) will also be migrated to a new host. That will happen after posting is finished for the year and before sign-ups for next’s challenge begin. Here’s hoping it goes smoothly. My site and the QB are similar in size and I have to admit to being a little nervous about the whole thing.
This isn’t a call for help on the tech front–I got this. It’s just unnerving considering the size and the amount of traffic. In fact, I’m writing this update to hopefully avoid people sending me emails when the sites go down (briefly).
I will be updating the migration schedule so you’ll know when things are happening and what we expect regarding wait times for the domains to resolve to the hosting server for the sites in question.
Thanks in advance, for your patience as this all happens. I really appreciate you all. Some of you have been with me since I was on a free site on wordpress.com and handled my crazy over there well (mostly).
As always, your donations would be appreciated.
