The Home Front

Reading Time: 10 MinutesArt by FanArts Series The Home Front Keira Marcos Series: What Might Have Been Series Order: Pre-series Interlude Pairing: Sheppard/McKay Rating: PG Word Count: 2,374 Summary: John Sheppard comes home. * * * * The Pegasus galaxy should’ve been the death of me. She certainly tried hard enough to do the deed in the time that I was there. A year and a half on the city of the Ancients hadn’t changed me as much as some people like to assume. The experience of living on Atlantis hadn’t made me a different man—no more than it had the scientists and Marines I was able to bring home with me. I knew it pointless and disrespectful to hide the man I am after suffering so much and losing so many. The people we buried in Pegasus—they’d earned honesty from me with their blood. So, returning to Earth in failure only to be promoted to Jack O’Neill’s 2IC hadn’t changed me—it’d just made it easier to stay. I’d really thought I’d be shuttled off to a nowhere base and had resolved myself to riding out the years I had left until I could retire. It wasn’t an unpleasant surprise to be wrong—to see that the people of the SGC didn’t see the Atlantis mission as a failure. Jack O’Neill didn’t hold the losses against me—not like I did. I blamed myself for the deaths of every single member of our expedition and it had all started when I’d failed…

Beautiful Stranger

Reading Time: 6 MinutesArt by FanArts Series Title: Beautiful Stranger Author: Keira Marcos Fandom: Stargate Series: What Might Have Been Series Order: Pre-Series Interlude Pairing: Cameron Mitchell/OMC Word Count: 1,590 * * * * Cameron wanted to play it cool—make it sexy, fun, and uncomplicated but the gorgeous man spread out on the bed underneath him was trembling. “Easy.” “This isn’t…what I expected.” “Good.” He leaned forward and placed a series of soft, damp kisses down the man’s stomach. He’d said his name was Matt but that could easily be a lie. “I don’t want to be the usual experience for you, Matthew.” The Navy pilot laughed softly and then groaned as Cam brushed his lips over the head of his cock. “Christ, you have no idea.” He kind of suspected that he was going where no man had gone before—touching and kissing this too beautiful stranger. Cam couldn’t even explain how they’d gone from meeting in the airport to sharing dinner and now a bed. He didn’t normally take risks with his career—and a stranger in uniform was a pretty big fucking risk. He sucked Matt’s cock deep into his mouth, swallowing around the head as pushed his hand under the man’s ass to get the right angle. His efforts were rewarded—Matt groaned softly, each breathy little sound was so exciting that Cam thought he might come on the sheets before he ever talked the man into fucking him. Cameron released his cock with a smart little pop and…

There was a Marine on the front porch of McKay’s house with a handful of tissue and red eyes. Sheppard suppressed a grin as he came up the stairs. “Please tell me he didn’t make you cry too, Corporal.” The Marine sneezed loudly and took a big deep wet breath that made John grimace. “No, sir. Your… Dr. McKay found a cat on the side of the road on the way home and insisted we stop and pick it up. It’s… huge, sir. I tried to convince him that it could have diseases or maybe it isn’t even a cat but he wouldn’t listen to me.” The Marine sniffled again. “I came out here because I’m allergic. Drake is inside.” “A cat?” John repeated. “You let him pick up a stray animal off the side of the road?” The Marine blushed. “I tried to drive past it, sir but he threatened to maim me for life if I didn’t turn around for the animal.” John swallowed back a laugh and shook his head. “Yeah, okay. I’ll send Drake out and you…

Reading Time: 17 Minutes Title: An Intimate Portrait with Dr. Rodney McKay and Colonel John Sheppard by Iris March Author: Keira Marcos Series: What Might Have Been Series Order: 4.5 Summary: Iris March sits down to interview Rodney McKay and John Sheppard and learns something she never expected. Pairing: Sheppard/McKay Rating: R (for adult themes) Spoilers: None Warnings: Language, discussion of child abuse, and OC point of view Categories: Slash, Established Relationship, Alternate Universe, Contemporary * * * * “It was recently my privilege to sit down with Dr. Rodney McKay and Colonel John Sheppard for my Intimate Portrait series.” Iris March leaned against a railing, a stunning view of snow-capped mountains spread out behind her. She brushed pale blonde hair over her shoulder and regarded the camera seriously. “The following interview is not appropriate for young viewers and I encourage parental guidance due to the discussion of violent child abuse and adult language.” The scene fades and Iris is standing in front of a silent grand piano. “Colonel John Sheppard tells me that Dr. McKay plays this instrument often in the afternoons but we were unable to talk him into playing for us today. Many of you might recognize the instrument from his performance during his interview with the Science Channel.” She waved a hand and the camera spanned around the large, open room. “It’s the center of this large room that both Dr. McKay and Colonel Sheppard admit to favoring in their home.” She moved away from the…

More Than Words – Part Six

Reading Time: 44 Minutes* * * * One Month Later “In other news, Gerald McCray has been formally named in an investigation by the Department of Justice in a large insider trading ring that has so far netted 15 high level executives in various technology and research companies around the country. He is the fifth executive from Pan-Tech to be named in the investigation. Pan-Tech made headlines earlier in the month when it’s CEO, Darren Franks, was found dead in his Florida home, the victim of an apparent home invasion. No suspects have been identified in that crime and investigators haven’t been forthcoming on any evidence left at the scene.” Rodney turned off the television in his office and turned in his chair to look at John. “Well?” “We have four left. What does your gut tell you?” “Armand went to ground shortly after the Justice Department picked up the investigation I fed them. I consider him a high level threat. Once we get a location on him, I want him dealt with.” “Not a problem.” John murmured. “Anyone else?” “None of the others have the finances or the intelligence to pull off anything I would consider a threat but I’m keeping an eye on them. I have a few friends that will make getting financed for anything difficult for them in the future.” John walked to stand by the large window that made up the back wall of Rodney’s office and watched Sebastian rough housing in the pool with…

More Than Words – Part Five

Reading Time: 13 Minutes* * * * “You know I want to help you, Dr. McKay, but what you’re asking is dangerous.” Rodney shrugged. “How long have I worked for this agency, Cole?” Phillip Cole took a deep breath. “I was told you signed your first contract with our organization when you were fourteen years old through a legal representative. I didn’t believe it, to be honest, and looked it up myself. However, you’ve always done amazing work for us, Doctor, and we appreciate it a great deal. Your work has made our intelligence operations safer and more effective. I get that we owe you.” “I want the names of the people who are in the Trust. I want their organizational hierarchy. I want to know where the money comes from. Who has political connections and what politicians are sitting in their pockets? It doesn’t matter to me who you have to go through or what you have to do to accomplish it. I’ve heard rumors but I want fact and I want it as soon as possible.” “I know they are pulling some strings trying to take your adopted child from you, but there are legal ways to deal with this.” “Our son cries himself to sleep every night, Cole. My General and I are no longer interested in playing this game with these men. You’ll get me the names or you won’t have a job by the end of the day.” He pulled an envelope from his suit…

More Than Words – Part Four

Reading Time: 32 Minutes * * * * “There isn’t a reality in the multiverse where that question is appropriate.” Sebastian scuffed the carpet in front of him with one shoe while Kate Heightmeyer hid a smile behind her hand. “Look, Dr. Marlow, I realize you have a job to do here and while it’s not my intention to make things difficult for you—I am not, under any circumstances, discussing my ‘burgeoning sexuality’ with you. That’s absolutely none of your business. I don’t even discuss my ‘burgeoning sexuality’ with myself. I’m not even sure I have a ‘burgeoning sexuality’, I turned ten three days ago.” The state psychologist clicked his ink pen several times and cleared his throat. “Yes, I understand that the plans for your birthday party on Rodney’s private island were cancelled.” That earned him a glare. “Yeah, because of this crap with my ex-step Aunt. She filed some kind of injunction about my leaving the country or even the planet which ruined my field trip to Uranus. I had to write a research paper on that planet to earn a spot on the observation team and then they went without me because of that stupid injunction.” Which he was ashamed to admit had resulted him in throwing his first temper tantrum, ever, in front of his Dads. They’d been no more amused than he had been and his throwing things hadn’t helped. He was still grounded over that crap. “And you’re to refer to him as Dr.…

More Than Words – Part Three

Reading Time: 25 Minutes* * * * John paused at the doors that lead out to the deck with a frown. Rodney and Sebastian were sitting side by side on the steps. The conversation was obviously a serious one. He wondered briefly if he should just walk away but he pushed that aside. He was pretty much of the opinion that neither one of them got to keep secrets from him. “I was working in a lab in Siberia. I got a little pissed off at O’Neill and took a break from the SGC. Just a few months, helping the Russians on their Naquadah generator project. At the time, it was very important that we maintain a good relationship with them.” “Must have been cool to be on the ground level on that research.” “Yeah. It was,” Rodney admitted. “The Russians had a great need for power as you can imagine—big cold ass country they have.” He sighed and leaned back on his hands. “I pushed the scientists on the project hard because after about two weeks I was more than ready to come home but I knew I couldn’t come home until I was done.” “How long were you there?” “Close to six months at the end of it. We were working in an old nuclear power facility, dismantled but certainly full of dangerous crap. The Russians were kind of nonchalant about the disposal of nuclear waste during that time. I had a team of about ten scientists—none of…

More Than Words – Part Two

Reading Time: 26 Minutes* * * * The alarm of an unscheduled activation had made John leave his office a quick pace but he hadn’t been really worried. There was always something going on in the gateroom and often an unscheduled activation just meant someone got done early and got to come home. So, when the IDC for SG1 came through and then Cameron Mitchell all but dragged his father through the event horizon—John was frozen for a second. Vala, Teal’c, Ronon, and Dr. Jackson came through the gate backwards, guns raised and still firing. “Close the iris!” Vala shouted. Cameron had Patrick Sheppard down on the floor by the time John shouldered through the Marines that stayed in the gateroom. Dr. Lam was close on his heels, and she shoved him bodily out of her way. “Patrick.” She dropped to her knees and started shouting at her team, while she opened his shirt and replaced Cameron Mitchell’s hand with her own. “What did you do?” “Just a flesh wound.” “I’ll be the fucking judge of that,” Carrie snapped. Her face tight with strain. “What the hell is wrong with the Sheppards? They just can’t seem to keep their blood…” She turned. “Miles, Dyson haul ass over here and get the Admiral off the goddamned floor!” The two medics snapped into action. “What happened?” Cameron took a deep breath. “He was stabbed. Negotiations went bad—he decided to leave. One of the men at the table decided that he should stay.”…

You’re Where I Belong – Part Three

Reading Time: 27 MinutesPART THREE The party seemed out of place but neither John nor Rodney had it in them to deny the rest of the family the time especially when Sebastian seemed to get a little more excited as each guest arrived. John had no clue why there were five different kinds of cake and Sean blamed ‘the women’ and wouldn’t say which ones exactly. There was a stunning amount of food, beer, and people in his house and he found himself moving from group to group with McKay talking to them. “When did this become our life?” Rodney asked as they extracted themselves from a group of scientists from Area 51 and started towards the freaking President of the United States who was chatting with the Prime Minister of Canada and Sebastian. “The President is in our house.” “I know,” John said with a sigh as he pressed his hand against the small of McKay’s back and urged him across the room. “It’s insane. Good afternoon, sirs, I hope you’re enjoying the party.” “Always a pleasure to be in Colorado, John,” Henry Hayes said with a little laugh. “Your son is an amazing asset to have—he’s caught me and Jean up on all of the gossip about the majority of the people in this room. I think he’s smarter than the man I have in charge of the CIA.” “Of course he is,” Rodney muttered. “And don’t even think about trying to recruit him.” He held out his…

It had been several weeks after the Atlantis expedition had returned to Earth and Rodney hadn’t seen half the personnel that had survived in person. They’d been sequestered, protected from the political maneuverings of the IOA. Jack O’Neill had been vicious and unapologetic in his defense and sheltering of them—both the military and civilian personnel. Debriefings had been careful, controlled, and rigidly monitored by seasoned SGC personnel and hostility from the IOA had been met with stalling tactics on a level few on Earth had ever seen. You’re Where I Belong – Part Two

Reading Time: 36 MinutesPART TWO “NO! Don’t! Don’t touch me!” Patrick Sheppard jerked awake in an instant, decades of military training making him reach for his gun without hesitation. He was in the hall way seconds later, facing a few of security personnel and his son, David. They were all grim faced and standing in front of the suite of rooms that belonged to Sebastian. “What the hell?” he demanded. “Frost did a sweep of the rooms and then let Jennifer in,” David murmured and then lifted away from the wall where he was leaning, a 9mm still grasped in his hand as the door opened. Declan Frost slipped out of the room and shut the door. “Nightmare.” He leaned back against it briefly. “Night terrors, sir. Dr. Keller is with him.” Patrick shared a glanced with his son David and then took a deep breath. “He hasn’t… John didn’t mention this.” “This is the time he’s been without them since… well since he found them,” David murmured. “And he slips into their rooms a lot—sleeps curled up between them.” “I heard him like he was in the room with me,” Patrick snapped. “There is a monitoring system in his room—it responded to something he was screaming and activated the house wide intercom.” Patrick stared at him for a few seconds. “Excuse me?” “McKay had him say words like ‘no’ and ‘stop’ in different tones when he installed the internal security. Sebastian also has a safe word he can call…

Writing the 'What Might Have Been Series'

Reading Time: 1 MinutesToday, though it was hardly the plan, I wrote the final three scenes for What Might Have Been– it’s in the story “Ring of FIre” which I have plotted out in my head but I’m no where near ready to write. But the last three scenes just came to me in a flash of inspiration. I’ll admit I cried while I wrote it. Don’t worry– I’m a firm believer in happily ever after but gosh did I make John work for it. I’ve come up with some great ideas for future AUs because of this series and I’ve got a lot of ideas jotted down for when I’m finished but a part of never really wants to finish it. I just want to keep writing for it forever but I do have a great idea for a second series with the same characters in the same universe– so we’ll see how that goes. My Sentinels of Atlantis series is bugging me and I’ve got a great idea for another AU that is a Sentinel/Criminal Minds/Stargate Fusion that will just not let me go at all. Tons of ideas and really so little time. I’m also tempted to dig out my old SG1 fanfic and polish it up. On other things– I think I’m going to take Vala and Daniel to Atlantis in the ‘Dark Places in the Soul Series’ and I’ve got a great story set up for John/Laura that will be heart breaking but lovely all…

My Wish For You- Part 2

Reading Time: 46 Minutes* * * * Three Days Later “Good afternoon, I am Lt. General Jack O’Neill and we would like to thank you all for coming.” Jack surveyed the crowd in his immediate vicinity. There were close to a thousand people on hand. Far more than they’d wanted and far less than had actually wanted to come to the what the press had dubbed ‘The Rising of the Phoenix’. “At Stargate Command, it is always a great day when we can welcome a new ship into service. Today, the very first X-500 will be released from the underground hangar where it has been constructed. Before we do that – I’d like to take a few minutes to do something that is very over due.” Jack smiled for the crowd and glanced back to his wife who stood carefully and pulled a small box from her purse. “Colonel Sheppard, would you join me please?” John exchanged looks with Rodney but stood and walked to the place where O’Neill indicated and offered him a precise salute. “Sir.” “As it has always been in our history – we find that the best of us come forward in times of adversity to lead and to sacrifice for the betterment of our species. No one under my command demonstrates that spirit and that bravery more than you, John. On behalf of the President of the United States it is my great honor to promote you to the rank of Brigadier General.” Jack smiled…

When You Kiss Me- Part Four

Reading Time: 46 Minutes* * * * Five days and six interviews later, Rodney was ready to have a screaming fit. None of them would do. The only qualified person he’d interviewed had been a decidedly mousy woman whom he would have destroyed two days in and then he would have felt compelled to put her up in a very nice mental facility for the rest of her life. John had laughed through most of that interview and had actually had to get up and leave at one point. He currently had SGC security while the men John had hired went through a battery of tests and background checks that closely resembled but was not exactly like the Spanish Inquisition. They’d even had to go through psychological testing. “Ian, would you go ahead and let this last guy in?” Ian smiled ruefully. “He’s on his phone bitching at someone—should I wait?” Rodney frowned and stood up. “Huh.” He walked to the front door and opened it. He knew enough about Sean Taylor to be very intrigued. He had a MBA, an undergrad degree in Information Systems, he was twenty-seven years old, had taken another boy to his Senior Prom, had a mom who thought he hung the moon and stars, and was reportedly single. He opened the front door and leaned on the frame to watch the younger man pace on one end of the porch. He’d obviously worked up a head full of steam at someone. “Look, I don’t…

Trust me on that. If you were alone you’d probably have a couple of self-appointed guards on the door.” “Speaking of self-appointed guards, I had a talk with one of my mine last night.” His gaze flicked towards the security camera and he sighed. “I think I’ve got that situation under control.” “Oh yeah?” John scrubbed shampoo into his hair and ducked under the spray. “He okay?” “Yeah. I’m going to help him hook up with someone in Geology.” He sighed. “It’s not exactly a soft science, but it’s not anything great either. Also, he’s looking into getting into Officer Candidate School.” “Good for him. Going enlisted first is smart; experience wins out.” He glanced towards Rodney when he heard him hiss in pain. “You okay.” “Yeah, just lifting my arms pulls at my ribs a little.” He finished washing his hair quickly and rinsed. “I need to go by the infirmary and get them re-taped I guess.” They were getting dressed in the locker room area when two teams came all of them talking and laughing. When You Kiss Me – Part Two

Reading Time: 40 Minutes* * * * John inclined his head in invitation. “Lt. Nelson, that just leaves you.” Nelson picked up the rods that his teammate had discarded as he had all but crawled from the sparring ring and rolled his head. The popping of bones was sharp and hard in the now very quiet room. “I’m not going to be easy like the rest of them.” “You know what?” John responded coolly. “I sincerely hope not. Because I owe you a conversation and I do my best communicating in this room.” He didn’t take his time like he had with the others; didn’t hold back. Every blow was powerful, precise, and merciless. And the second time he struck, he drew blood. It sprayed out across the sparring ring like rain. Nelson drug one hand across his mouth and glared. “It isn’t like he didn’t want it.” John circled him. “Is that your way of asking for a mercy killing?” He struck the man across the back with four quick blows that sounded like a whip hitting naked flesh and Nelson stumbled briefly, when he turned, John kicked him the face and sent him sprawling. “You’re not going to kill me. Flyboys like you don’t have it in you to kill in cold blood.” Nelson struggled to his feet. “You wouldn’t even be the first person I’ve killed this week,” John responded softly. The mood in the room altered slightly and the entire squadron shifted on their feet. “So,…

I don’t own them. I don’t pretend to. This is just for fun. Don’t sue me—it would be a waste of your money. But, hey, these words are mine so don’t steal them and say they are yours. * * * * “It’s nearly an hour from the base.” Rodney frowned and shot the realtor a look that John had learned to interpret as ‘oh-you’re-fired-for-wasting-my-time’. “I admit it’s nice and pretty close to what we are looking for but it is simply too far from work for both of us.” It wasn’t perfect. McKay expected perfect. The realtor gave a tight smile. She’d shown them every house that had even come close to their demands and John figured she was on her last nerve but when one house shopped with a billionaire one-made allowances. He watched her temper disappear and he was sure she was reminding herself…

When You Say You Love Me- Part Four

Reading Time: 50 Minutes* * * * He found all four Sheppards in the kitchen after his shower. They were sitting in silence and John met his gaze when he slid into a chair at the table. “So, let’s talk – you and me.” Rodney grimaced. “About what?” “Your father. Where is he?” “In the house I bought him in France. He’s required to stay there until he dies.” “You send him money.” “Yes and I’m not going to defend that choice. It’s something I did a long time ago and it’s an arrangement that has worked well for me for more than 15 years. This is what we can both live with.” “Why did he try to kill you?” “Don’t be naïve, John, some kids get disowned and some get the beating of their lives.” He glanced towards Patrick. “Sorry.” Patrick shook his head. “No, I need no apologies. It’s exactly what I did. I can’t even say I didn’t come close to hitting him that night but I sure as hell wouldn’t have beaten him.” “Well, John was a pretty good fighter even then. He’d have probably wiped the floor with you.” Dave stood up from the table and checked out the contents of the refrigerator. “So, hmm, can we order pizza or something?” “Only if someone goes to get it,” John murmured. “The houses?” “I have three, including this one. One in Seattle and one on a private island in the Virgin Islands. I have staff in…

When You Say You Love Me- Part Three

Reading Time: 47 Minutes* * * * “Food should be here soon.” Patrick Sheppard nodded. “I hope us being here hasn’t made McKay retreat to his office?” John shook his head. “He always spends an hour in there before dinner, it’s a ritual of sorts.” He kicked Matthew who was on the end of the couch. “How you doin’ kid?” “I thought we agreed when I hit 30 you’d stop calling me kid?” “Yeah, well, you still look way younger than me… so still kid.” John stood from the couch as the doorbell rang and pulled out his service piece as he moved out into the foyer. He felt a presence at his back and wasn’t surprised to see Matt standing there a gun resting casually on his thigh. “Okay, so maybe I’ll stop calling you kid.” Matt grinned. “Who knew it would take a gun?” John checked the door, confirmed the delivery person and put his weapon back in the holster. “Steve. Thank God you’re here—McKay threatened cannibalism if you didn’t get here soon.” The kid grinned. “Lot of food tonight.” “Just a little family over.” John took the bags and signed the credit card slip. He pulled a twenty out of his pocket for the tip. “How’d you do your test flight last week?” “Captain Eliason says I’ll be ready for my solo flight next month.” Steve pocketed the money with a grin. “Saw you on TV. Told all of my friends that I knew you and McKay…

When You Say You Love Me – Part Two

Reading Time: 34 Minutes* * * * John stood slightly behind Rodney off stage, several feet away and watched him work a room full of very smart people with the kind of charisma and eloquence that was quite unexpected. By the end of his presentation, a full hour long, the entire audience was actually leaning forward. It was disconcerting and it made him want to palm his weapon just to be safe. A glance at Ian and Jimmy confirmed that they were also feeling a little unnerved by the rapt attention being paid to McKay. He concluded his presentation and turned off the overhead projector that had demonstrated several models of theoretical wormholes. Half the room raised their hands but McKay shook his head. “I’ll be available for questions after tomorrow’s presentation. Thank you.” And five hundred people got to their feet, talking, and clapping at the same time. It was quite a thing and John stepped forward immediately, tucked one hand around McKay’s elbow, and got him off stage. A few hands signals to Wilkes and Martinson got him a path to the side exit they’d already chosen with hotel security. It would lead them to an elevator and to the sanctuary of the suite until it was time for the dinner. In the elevator, Jimmy leaned against the wall. “Geeks are kind of scary when they concentrate.” John laughed aloud. “It was like watching sharks circle,” Ian muttered. “Dr. McKay, maybe you should just stay in the mountain.…

Reading Time: 44 MinutesTitle: When You Say You Love Me Author: Keira Marcos Series: What Might Have Been Series Order: 3 Banner Art: FanArts Series Beta: Heather Warnings: Slash, angst, sappy emotional stuff, gun violence, knife violence, explicit sex, no spoilers Pairing: McKay/Sheppard Disclaimer: I don’t own them. I don’t pretend to. This is just for fun. Don’t sue me—it would be a waste of your money. Summary: Colonel John Sheppard and Dr. Rodney McKay find themselves unwillingly thrust into the public spotlight when someone makes an attempt on McKay’s life. John finds himself juggling a freaking out McKay, his gianormous cat, an estranged father (and two brothers), a murderous plot, two irritated Generals, the IOA, and a wedding planner masquerading as the Prime Minister of Canada. * * * * “Huh.” Colonel John Sheppard suppressed a grin at the one syllable sound that fell from Dr. Rodney McKay’s lips, because the entire room stilled at the utterance. The sound was always greeted with something in between elation and utter horror. There was really absolutely no telling what was going to come out of Rodney’s mouth when he started with ‘huh’. It could be the most brilliant thing ever. Alternatively, it could be the beginning of him ripping someone’s soul right out of their body. It could be… both. The conference room was full to the brim with government officials and upper brass from several different branches of the military. Every one of them seemed to have an opinion on…
